ONI and Massive Photonics Announce a Successful Collaboration Bringing DNA-PAINT Technology to the Nanoimager

SAN DIEGO, CA & MÜNCHEN, DE, October 1, 2024
 –

ONI, a life science tools company focused on unlocking super-resolution microscopy, and Massive Photonics, The DNA-PAINT company, are thrilled to announce a successful collaboration to bring specially optimized DNA-PAINT reagents to the Nanoimager platform. These reagents promise to provide researchers with a powerful and user-friendly solution that enables 2-color labeling and sub-20nm resolution with seamless compatibility between the DNA-PAINT reagents and the ONI Nanoimager platform. The key component of this offering is the MASSIVE-sdAB ONI 2-PLEX Kit, which contains two single-domain antibodies (sdABs) optimized for DNA-PAINT imaging. These sdABs, coupled to DNA-PAINT docking sites, allow for efficient and flexible imaging with two docking sites per primary antibody.

The Nanoimager is the world’s first desktop enabled super-resolution microscope capable of visualizing, tracking, imaging, and discerning individual molecular interactions in cells and tissues. DNA-PAINT (DNA-Point Accumulation for Imaging in Nanoscale Topography) is a super-resolution microscopy technique made user friendly by the team at Massive Photonics that utilizes short DNA strands labeled with fluorophores to selectively bind and illuminate affinity binders (e.g. antibodies) conjugated to complementary DNA strands, allowing researchers to visualize and study cellular structures at the nanoscale. The kit makes this process even more accessible by providing ready-to-use reagents for 2-color DNA-PAINT imaging, tested and optimized specifically for the Nanoimager. Simply add your primary antibodies, and you are ready for high-precision, nanoscale visualization. When conjugated to secondary antibodies, Massive Photonics optimized probes make DNA-PAINT accessible to anyone with a primary antibody and a Nanoimager system.

Researchers will be able to purchase these reagents directly through Massive Photonics starting on October 2, 2024 and should expect a versatile toolkit for labeling their proteins of interest, enabling a wide range of applications, from protein counting to resolving nanoscale structures. The kit includes all necessary reagents, such as imager strands and buffers, for seamless sample preparation and imaging.

Jason Jell, PhD, Vice President of Marketing at ONI stated, “The work done by the team at Massive Photonics to make DNA-PAINT accessible to all is to be commended and we are honored to work with them on this kit which has been optimized for our Nanoimager System. It’s exciting to think about the nanoscale-level scientific breakthroughs our customers can uncover from this collaboration.”

Dr Jürgen Schmied, CEO of Massive Photonics, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, adding, “This partnership marks a significant milestone in the advancement of DNA-PAINT super-resolution microscopy. By combining our expertise with ONI, we are introducing a game-changing solution that empowers researchers to explore the nanoscale world of proteins with unparalleled precision.

About ONI

ONI’s mission is to accelerate scientific discovery and fight disease by enabling everyone to visualize, understand, and share the microscopic details of life. ONI’s first product, the Nanoimager, is the world’s first desktop, super-resolution, single-molecule imaging platform capable of visualizing and tracking individual molecules in complex systems such as nanoparticles, living cells, and tissue with 20 nm resolution. ONI has continued this trend of democratizing super-resolution microscopy through the introduction of CODI, a software platform for acquisition, analysis, collaboration, and storage of super- resolution data. ONI was founded as a spin-out from Oxford University and has rapidly grown since its inception with offices now in San Diego, CA (HQ) and Oxford, UK.
